What is a Peel and how does it work?

A chemical peel involves the application of exfoliating substances to the skin in order to remove dead cells and stimulate cell regeneration. Depending on how deeply they act, there are three types of peel:

🔹 Superficial peel: Ideal for improving skin texture and radiance. Glycolic, lactic or mandelic acid is used.
🔹 Medium peel: Indicated for treating blemishes, fine wrinkles and sun damage. Salicylic or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is applied.
🔹 Deep peel: Acts on deeper layers of the skin, reducing pronounced wrinkles and scars. It uses phenol or high-concentration TCA.

At Clínica Ramírez & Gálvez, we assess each case to recommend the most suitable type of peel for the patient's skin and goals.

When is it recommended?

✅ Skin blemishes and melasma.
✅ Dull skin or skin lacking radiance.
✅ Fine lines and signs of ageing.
✅ Acne scars and enlarged pores.
✅ Oily, acne-prone skin.

A peel is an effective treatment for improving skin quality and preventing skin ageing.

What does the treatment involve?

1️⃣ Skin assessment to choose the most suitable peel.
2️⃣ Deep cleansing and application of the chemical product.
3️⃣ The peel is left to act for a few minutes.
4️⃣ Neutralisation and removal of the product.
5️⃣ Post-treatment hydration and sun protection.

The procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes, and in most cases several sessions are recommended to achieve optimal results.

After the treatment

✅ Avoid direct sun exposure and use SPF50 sunscreen.
✅ Do not exfoliate or rub the skin for the first few days.
✅ Keep the skin hydrated and follow medical advice.
✅ Avoid heavy make-up for the first 24 hours.

Recovery time depends on the type of peel applied. Superficial peels do not require time off work, while deeper ones may need a few days of rest.
